Ryuichi Sakamoto, Haruomi Hosono and Hiroshi Yoshimura appear on a new Japanese compilation, Kankyō Ongaku

The Seattle-based label Light In The Attic announces the next instalment of their ongoing Japan Archival Series, titled Kankyō Ongaku: Japanese Ambient, Environmental & New Age Music 1980-1990, due out on the 15th of February.

Compiled by Visible Cloaks’ Spencer Doran, the collection features internationally acclaimed artists such as Haruomi Hosono, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Joe Hisaishi, as well as pioneers like Hiroshi Yoshimura, Yoshio Ojima and Satoshi Ashikawa. The 25-track release is an unprecedented overview of the country’s vital minimal, ambient, avant-garde, and New Age music, and it’s the first-ever fully licensed collection of this music outside of Japan. Kankyō Ongaku will be available on 3xLP, 2xCD and digital formats with extensive liner notes and artist bios, including an essay by Spencer Doran.
