Orb Podcast 058: Biri

One of Israel’s finest exports, Biri, has been active in the scene for most of his life, constantly exploring new waters to express himself through music. As one half of the well-respected duo Deep’a & Biri, Itai Biri quickly became a staple in his home scene and regularly played the biggest clubs in Israel.

Most recently he has been developing his solo career and moving away from the technoid house act that Deep’a and Biri were. His solo sound is hypnotic, dreamy, soulful, and harmonic, reaching from techno to ambient. His effort has gained the attention of many, leading to his latest releases on labels such as Figure, Non Series, and Counterchange.

Biri’s long experience and ongoing curiosity for new realms make him a versatile, yet well-defined DJ. He aims to tell a story in his sets while being in control of the energy at all times, always ready to surprise the dancefloor while staying true to his vision.

For the 58th episode of Orb Podcast, Biri brings an eclectic mix covering a wide range of styles that inspire him, in his own words “I wanted the mix to feel more like a radio show than a traditional club mix. I was inspired by Orb Mag, which I always saw as a more diverse and inclusive publication than the average music magazine. I wanted my mix to reflect the same spirit, and I hope that it will resonate with the listeners.”

As for the way he chose the records for the mix: “I chose these tracks according to a certain mood and atmosphere that I wanted to present in the mix. I selected tracks with meditative sound design and arrangements. However, I also wanted to create a sense of movement and progression, so I selected tracks with different tempos and approaches.”
