Jóhann Jóhannsson’s final work is a soundtrack for a horror movie

Jóhann Jóhannsson’s film score for horror movie Mandy is being released by Lakeshore Records on September 14th.

Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson passed away last year in February. Before he passed away, he completed the soundtrack for Mandy, an ’80s inspired horror film by Panos Cosmatos, featuring Nicholas Cage as the main actor. The music was co-produced with Randall Dunn and includes guitars by Stephen O’Malley of Sunn O))). The plot revolves around Nicholas Cage’s role of a man who’s seeking vengeance for his murdered wife. “Jóhann went above and beyond, and I suspect to the limits of his sanity, to make the music for this movie,” was Cosmatos’s comment on the musicians work for the film.
