Orb Podcast 001: Globular

Morison Bennett’s interest in music was noticed at a very young age. The first instrument he owned was a bass guitar which was the first step of his long musical journey. Since then, he continued to practice music and eventually purchased his first track recorder/ mixing desk, a Fostex 4, creating horrific punk-based noises and simultaneously playing with several mini-local bands.

At the age of 17, Morison quit school. However, he ended up studying foundations of Music Technology and Sound Engineering. At the end of two intense college years, the Bristol-based artist Morison Bennett got introduced to the Mystery of the Yeti albums as well as 1200 Micrograms, which led to the creation of his project Globular.

Globular’s music draws inspiration from other psychedelic artists such as Shpongle, Ott, Greg Hunter, and Youth, as well as from further afield in general electronica and music including Tool, NOFX, and The Prodigy. His musical style is an alternating blend of dub, big beat, psychedelic and world/ethnic influences.

To date, he has released three full-length albums including A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy, Magnitudes of Order, and Holobiont, several EPs, as well as many tracks which can be found floating around the internet. An interesting fact about Globular is that he does not follow the traditional ways of publishing music but releases his productions for free.

Since 2015, Globular is part of Shanti Planti collective and is one of the founders of the Sofa Beats roster, helping to build a real and independent chill out culture. For this occasion, Globular prepared an exclusive 1-hour mix of his musical catalogue, a blend of dub, psychedelic and world/ethnic journey. Deep dubbed-out bass lines provide the bedrock for the harmonic intricacies and grooving melodies that typify his sound.
